Worked examples

  • Condo, front door with deadbolt and knob: $99 (service call + 2 cylinders), about 20 minutes.
  • House, front, back and garage entry door with deadbolts: $124 to $174 depending on knob-plus-deadbolt count, 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Landlord turnover, 2-bedroom unit, 2 doors, keyed alike with 4 extra keys: service call + cylinders + keys, quoted as one total before the visit.
  • Smart lock on the front door, rekey the rest to match the new lock's key: install labor from $149 plus cylinders at $25 each.

What changes the price

  • Cylinder count, not door count. A door with a deadbolt and a keyed knob is two cylinders.
  • Lock type. Standard residential cylinders are the base rate; restricted or high-security cylinders are quoted individually.
  • Hardware. If a lock needs replacing we quote the exact part before installing it. You can also supply your own.
  • Door condition. A sagging door or a misaligned strike gets fixed as part of a smart lock install; major door repairs are quoted separately.
  • Timing. No premium during normal hours (Mon–Fri 7am–8pm · Sat–Sun 8am–6pm). Outside those hours, ask and we will tell you if we can do it and what it costs.

Pricing questions

Is the service call charged on top of the rekey?

Yes, once per visit, and it covers travel anywhere in San Diego County. For a three-door home that means $49 plus three cylinders at $25, about $124 total. There is no separate trip fee, fuel fee or after-hours multiplier during our normal hours.

Why do some locksmith ads say "$19 rekey"?

Those ads usually show a per-cylinder or lead-generation price and add a service call, "labor" and hardware once the technician arrives. Ask any locksmith for the total price for your address and door count before booking. We give ours in writing by text.

Do you charge more for Schlage, Baldwin or high-security cylinders?

Standard Kwikset and Schlage cylinders are the base rate. Some high-security or restricted cylinders (for example certain Medeco or Mul-T-Lock models) take longer and need specific pins, so they are quoted individually. We tell you before we start.

Is a smart lock cheaper to install if I already bought it?

Labor is the same whether you supply the lock or we do: from $149. If we supply it, you pay the hardware at the price we quote up front. Either way the install includes door alignment, pairing and a walkthrough.

How does pricing work for multiple units or property managers?

Landlords and property managers rekeying several units in one visit pay the service call once, and the whole building is quoted as one written total before the visit. Send us the unit count and lock brands for the number.
